3D Lead

We need an experienced 3D Lead to help manage and inspire a new and growing team, set goals and give feedback.  You’ll manage up – reporting directly to the studio’s Art Lead and work closely with Technical Leads and their Development Team. You’ll also manage down to your own team of 3D artists. You’ll set the direction, contribute to production, and oversee the integration of quality 3D assets into our games. It’s enormously helpful if you love games and are up to date on the latest trends and best practices. A strong technical background will also help. Most of all though, we want you to be artful and meticulous, setting the standard for your team through example.

Please include a portfolio with relevant work, clearly indicating work created by you personally and which work was overseen by you.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 3 to 5 3D artists (animators as well as texture, environment, and character artists)

  • Work with the development team to ensure successful and frictionless integration of assets into games.

  • Work with the development team to come up with solutions to problems with constraints including running on older hardware or non-standard platforms.

  • Give constant feedback to team and aid in setting and meeting goals.

  • Must be hands-on and able to assist in production when required.

Required Skills:

  • A minimum of 4 years managing a 3D team of at least 3 people.

  • A minimum of 3 shipped titles (indie or AAA)

  • Excellent eye for high quality 3D artwork

  • Expertise with 3DS Max, Maya or Blender

  • Experience creating low-poly, game ready assets.

  • Ability to guide and mentor

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (mostly Photoshop)

Special Consideration Given to:

  • AGILE and Scrum experience

  • Experience with integrating assets into Unity

  • Adobe After Effects experience

What we Offer:

  • Full-time position

  • Flexible working hours

  • The opportunity to build 3D team and set practices while working on a rapidly growing IP.

  • A permissive company culture that encourages creative problem solving, transparency, and independence.

  • A competitive salary plus performance based bonuses

  • Generous dental and medical benefits.

  • Your choice of equipment upon starting (Wacom tablet, Cintiq, keyboard, mouse, headphones, etc.)

  • 2 weeks holiday to start PLUS a month off from December 15th to January 15th.

We’d love to have a bit of a generalist to tackle whatever 3D challenges we throw at them, but where you really shine is environments. It’ll be up to you to triage requests, assigning the appropriate amount of effort based on an element’s importance, complexity, and scene setting. You’ll work with your 3D Lead and the Producer to estimate effort on tasks and give input on their production. You’ll be asked to use 3DS Max, Maya or Blender and help bring elements into Unity. It’s OK if you can’t do this on day one – we’ll figure it out together. Special consideration will be given to any particle or procedural animation experience you might have in a game engine.
